The JCI Galway team was joined by friends and family for a very early start this morning to take part in the Darkness Into Light Walk along the prom.

This was the first time that some of the team had taken part and they were in awe of the volume of people gathered at Leisureland.

This is the 6th year of the 5km walk around the beautiful Galway Bay in aid of Pieta House. It is a symbol of hope as Pieta House is a centre for the prevention of suicide and self-harm. The event has grown exponentially over the years from a few hundred people in the Phoenix Park 8 years ago to hundreds of thousands of people taking part across 4 continents.

The Galway crowd was treated to a beautiful calm morning as the dawn was breaking over the Prom in Salthill towards the end of the walk. All of the participants were treated to a hot cuppa before heading home to a warm bed after completing their great deed for the day.

We also met a few of the Connacht Rugby crowd who were out in support of the great charity ahead of the sold out rugby match against Glasgow tonight. Wishing them the best of luck!

JCI encourages all members to be active citizens in their communities and the Galway team is always eager to help out where we can, by taking part in community events and volunteering.

If you want to learn more about JCI Galway please come along to our open meeting on Tuesday May 10th at 8pm in the new Portershed (behind the training station).
